Massage Reduces The Effects of Stress
Up to 9O% of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related complaints such as headaches, backaches, neck pain, eye strain, poor concentration, anxiety, depression, irritability, anger, high blood pressure, heart disease, ulcers, as well as physical and emotional exhaustion. Massage therapy has an amazing effect on your body’s nervous system. When massage therapy activates your body’s parasympathetic nervous system, it counteracts your body’s negative response to stress, relaxing muscle tension and allowing your heart rate, blood pressure and circulation to return to normal.

Massage therapy also helps you become more aware of your body and your unconsciously-held tension. As you become more aware of your body, you will begin to recognize tension as it builds during the day so that you can consciously release it before it can have a negative effect on your body.

Massage Relaxes Tense Muscles
Muscles can become tight and ineffective for many reasons. Stress, injury, poor circulation, overuse, and misuse, can all cause you pain and discomfort as well as restrict your normal range of motion. When left unattended, these conditions can become habitual and hamper the quality of your everyday life. Massage therapy stretches and loosens tight muscle and connective tissue, breaking down and preventing further formation of adhesions, freeing your range of motion and reducing the danger of fibrosis.

Massage Increases Blood Circulation
Like a sponge that Is squeezed, a tight muscle can not hold much fluid nor can it allow fluid to pass through It. This decreases your circulation of blood and increases the strain placed on your heart. Among the obvious problems that this can cause, this can leave you feeling fatigued and sore, reducing your precious energy reserves. Massage therapy releases contracted muscles and pushes venous blood towards the heart, thus easing the strain on this vital organ. This increase in circulation brings energy-producing nutrients and oxygen to your cells as well as carries away metabolic waste products that can make you feel listless and drained.

Massage Decreases Chronic Pain
Far too many of us face our daily lives with chronic pain due to injuries or illness. Not only does massage therapy help to correct the conditions that cause chronic pain, but it also decreases chronic pain two other ways: The first by the trained touch of a therapist activating nerve receptor signals along myelinated nerve fibers to temporarily block chronic signals from reaching the brain and the second is by the stimulated release of endorphins (the body's natural painkiller) into the brain and nervous system to reduce your feelings of pain and discomfort without the use of unnatural drugs.

Menu of Massage Therapy offered at Cocoa Beach Wellness Center

Swedish Massage
A full-body Swedish massage is a great introduction to massage or a reliable on-going treatment to promote wellness. Therapists apply long, flowing strokes as well as friction, tapotement, compression and kneading to muscles and soft tissue to promote release of tension and deep relaxation. Oil, cream or lotion is applied to the skin to reduce friction and allow smooth strokes. In addition to the inducement of deep relaxation, Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain and joint stiffness.
(1/2 hr. $35, 1 hr. $60 or 1 1/2 hr. $85)

Neuromuscular/Deep Tissue
Neuromuscular/Deep Tissue massage is great for pain relief and works very specifically with the muscles by addressing the origin and insertion of the muscle (where it begins and ends), the belly of the muscle and any trigger points (areas of pain). These techniques are ideally suited for clients with chronic pain resulting from a variety of factors including stress, strain and injuries, car accidents, and chronic poor posture.

Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone massage is a luxurious and relaxing massage combined with deep heat therapy. Smooth, polished Basalt Lava Stones are heated and incorporated into the massage. This is the perfect treatment to loosen tight muscles, relieve stress and ease tension. Clients may customize the experience by adding their favorite essential oil.
(1 hr. 30 min. $100)

Myofascial
Myofascial is a very effective massage technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. In the normal healthy state, the fascia (or connective tissue) is relaxed and wavy in configuration, and has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. However, physical trauma, scarring or inflammation can cause the fascia to lose its pliability. It then becomes tight and a source of tension to the rest of the body, which can affect flexibilty, mobility and stability. Therapists use prolonged light pressure without movement, but with specific direction to warm the fascia. This helps the tissue to return to its more fluid state releasing restrictions and providing clients with reduced pain and increased mobility.
(1 hr. $60, 1 1/2 hr. $85)

Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy is also sometimes called pressure point massage. A trigger point is an area of hyperirritability, a muscle that may refer pain sensation such as tenderness, spasm, numbness and tingling to other parts of the body. Therapists apply manual direct pressue and use active stretching with these trigger points to reduce pain and improve function of the areas involved.
(1 hr. $60, 1 1/2 hr. $85)

Shiatsu/Acupressure
Shiatsu means "finger pressure" and is the Japanese form of acupressure, a type pf therapeutic massage based on traditional Chinese medicine. It is like acupuncture without the needles and combines massage with stretches and gentle pressure along channels or rivers called meridians. Each meridian corresponds to a particular organ or organ function. Key energetic acu-points along the meridians address particular functions in the body. The therapist stimulates the points by pressing with the hands and fingers to allow the flow of energy through the meridians. When the meridians are balanced, the tissues, nerves, muscles and bones respond in kind.

Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy or pre-natal massage is a massage therapy specifically tailored to the expectant mother's needs. Benefits often extend beyond the physical providing additional comfort and emotional support during pregnancy.

When massage is complete a moist steaming towel is placed over the spine to help enhance the benefits of the oils.
